Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Event
On January 16, 2025, Forsyth Technical Community College hosted its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration in the Rhoades Conference Center at the Robert L. Strickland Center. This free, public event welcomed students, employees and members of the wider community to reflect on the life and work of Dr. King.
The program’s keynote address was delivered by Dr. Keith Vereen, pastor of Providence Baptist Church and a retired U.S. Army veteran. Dr. Vereen brought a unique perspective as both a faith leader and service member, drawing on his experiences to highlight Dr. King’s enduring call for justice, unity and service. His remarks emphasized how Dr. King’s vision continues to guide individuals and institutions alike toward creating a more inclusive and supportive society.
The event served as an opportunity for attendees to pause and consider how Dr. King’s legacy remains relevant today. Students, faculty and staff were joined by community partners and neighbors, strengthening the bonds between Forsyth Tech and the communities it serves. The celebration underscored the college’s ongoing commitment to service and learning as central values in preparing students not only for careers but also for leadership in their communities.
Through gatherings such as this, Forsyth Tech continues to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. while fostering dialogue, reflection and action. The annual celebration has become a meaningful tradition for the college, providing space to remember Dr. King’s contributions and to inspire all who attend to carry his vision forward in their own lives.
