Apprenticeships Take Big Leap at Forsyth Tech
The Learn and Earn Apprenticeship Program
Forsyth Tech’s Learn and Earn Apprenticeship Program (LEAP) marked a year of substantial growth and measurable impact during the 2024–2025 academic year. As a U.S. Department of Labor Apprenticeship Ambassador, LEAP advanced its mission of connecting classroom learning with paid, on-the-job training that leads to both career-ready skills and college credit. Over the year, the program expanded employer engagement and student participation, partnering with 77 local and regional employers, registering apprenticeships in 23 occupations, and onboarding 249 new apprentices.

LEAP deepened its investments in high-demand fields, notably healthcare and information technology, developing both apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeship pipelines that align with employer needs and regional labor trends. In healthcare, the program introduced new pathways to prepare students for frontline and technical roles in hospitals, clinics and community health settings, combining hands-on clinical experience with classroom instruction and mentorship.
A signature accomplishment this year was the launch of the IT Apprenticeship Program at West Stokes High School. The Nov. 19 event showcased state-of-the-art labs and IT workstations, live demonstrations of industry tools and software, and direct conversations with students studying network configuration cybersecurity and system analysis. By bringing apprenticeship training into the high school setting, Forsyth Tech is expanding access to career pathways earlier in students’ educational journeys while helping employers cultivate talent tuned to local workforce needs.
LEAP’s employer partnerships span more than 50 industries and include small businesses and large employers committed to workforce development. Participating apprentices earn competitive wages while accruing college credit toward credentials and degrees, creating a cost-effective, competency-based route to stable employment. The program also emphasizes lowering barriers to career education through pre-apprenticeship supports, flexible scheduling and close employer collaboration.
Looking ahead, Forsyth Tech will continue to scale LEAP offerings, strengthen employer partnerships, and refine curriculum to reflect evolving industry standards. The program’s recent gains demonstrate a sustained commitment to preparing students for in-demand careers while supplying the region with a reliable pipeline of skilled professionals.
