Letter to the Editor From Edwin L. Welch, Jr.
For more than two decades, I have had the privilege of serving Forsyth Tech in many roles. I’ve been a Foundation Board member, the chair of the Board of Trustees, a Capital Campaign co-chair, and proud supporter of the students who walk through our doors with hope and determination. My involvement began in 2003, and each chapter since has only strengthened my belief in the mission of this institution and its ability to change lives.
I have witnessed firsthand what happens when a community rallies behind a shared purpose. The Momentum campaign, which I co-chaired in 2005, raised more than $13 million and helped propel Forsyth Tech forward at a crucial time. Our work to launch the Early College opened new doors for students who needed a different path. Years later, the Pathways to Possibilities Campaign continued that progress, expanding resources and supporting innovative programs that prepare students for the careers of today and tomorrow.
But, these milestones are not mine alone; they represent the dedication of many people who believe deeply in the power of education. They also remind us that progress does not happen without commitment. It takes leadership, vision and investment. I see these qualities every day in the more than 1,500 college employees, and I saw them clearly when I co-led the presidential search in 2018. That process brought Dr. Spriggs to Forsyth Tech, and her leadership has strengthened our institution and expanded opportunities for students across our region.
In 2019, I was humbled when the Board of Trustees named the Student Success Center in my honor. That recognition reflects not just my service, but the collective belief that every student deserves support, encouragement and a chance to succeed.
Forsyth Tech is changing lives every day – but we cannot do this work alone. I urge you to join me in supporting the Forsyth Tech Foundation. Your gift becomes a pathway, a promise and a powerful investment in the future of our community.
