Q
Dear Foundation Frannie,
I’m interested in supporting Forsyth Tech, but I’d like to make a gift of stock rather than cash. Is that possible? How would I do that?
Sincerely, Annette Asset
A
Dear Annette, the short answer is: Absolutely! The Forsyth Tech Foundation welcomes gifts of appreciated stock. Donating securities can be a tax-wise way to make a meaningful impact – allowing you to support students and programs while potentially avoiding capital gains taxes. To make a stock gift, simply contact the Forsyth Tech Foundation office for transfer instructions. We’ll work directly with your broker to ensure your gift is received and acknowledged promptly.
Q
Frannie, I’d like to create a scholarship in someone’s honor. How large does a gift need to be to endow one?
Truly, Lena Legacy
A
Dear Lena, Thank you so much for reaching out; endowed scholarships are a wonderful way to create a lasting legacy. At Forsyth Tech, a minimum gift of $25,000 is required to establish a named, endowed scholarship. The principal remains invested permanently, and the annual earnings provide scholarship awards for students year after year. Smaller gifts can also contribute to existing scholarship funds, helping students achieve their dreams through education.
Q
Foundation Frannie, I’m just wondering why the Forsyth Tech Foundation exists?
Curiously, Phil A. Thropy
A
Hey Phil, great question and one I answer in this column quite a lot! The Forsyth Tech Foundation exists to advance the mission of Forsyth Technical Community College by securing private support for students, programs and initiatives that transform lives. Every dollar raised helps bridge the gap between public funding and the resources needed to ensure students have access to high-quality, affordable education. The Foundation empowers donors to make a direct and lasting difference – fueling scholarships, emergency aid, workforce innovation, athletics and student success across our community.
